Mystic: Top Attractions

The storied 19th-century schooner was replicated in a $3.1-million project undertaken by Mystic Seaport shipwrights. Steven Spielberg's controversial 1997 film, "Amistad," shed new light on the ship's history: en route from Havana, 53 West African slaves fought a bloody battle to take over the slave ship, only to be recaptured in America before they were eventually freed.

B.F. Clyde's Cider Mill, Mystic
Family-run since 1881, this is the last steam-powered cider mill in New England. Clyde's recently received a National Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark Award. Fresh cider is made daily during the Fall. Clyde's is also a bonded winery, producing hard ciders and apple wines. Open seasonally, seven days a week. Handicapped accessible. Historic site. Fun for children.

Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center
The world's largest and most comprehensive Native American museum and research center offers an array of engaging experiences for young and old, from life-size walk-through dioramas that transport visitors into the past, to changing exhibits and live performances of contemporary arts and cultures. Four full acres of permanents exhibits depict 18,000 years of Native and natural history in thoroughly researched detail, while two libraries, including one for children, offer a diverse selection of materials on the histories and cultures of all Native peoples of the United States and Canada.

Mystic Aquarium, Mystic
Encounter ocean animals in an exciting new way. Experience Birds of the Outback, an exciting interactive exhibit for this summer only! Reach in and touch a ray, go beak to nose with an African penguin, and feel the splash of a beluga whale. Come visit a wonderful variety of animals from beluga whales to Stellar sea lions, African penguins, blue tongued skinks and more. Be sure to visit the newest additions to our aquarium; two penguin chicks and a California sea lion pup named Boomerang. Take a ride on the new XD Motion Theater Deep Sea 3D. Dive into the deep with the world’s only exhibits based on Dr. Robert Ballard's expeditions. Come see Dr. Ballard's new exhibit, "Exploring Your National Marine Sanctuaries", which takes you live into some of our National Marine Sanctuaries where you will discover shipwrecks and see colorful corals without having to leave the Aquarium.
