Love Scene
The courtship of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall on the set of To Have and Have Not is the stuff of Hollywood legend, but who knew that Bogie and Bacall spent their honeymoon in the Gatehouse of the Inn at Mystic in Mystic, Connecticut? This year would be their 60th anniversary, and the cottage is still available for romantic rendezvous, warmed by salvaged oak paneling, antique English furniture, fireplaces, and charming nooks. The Inn's 68 guest rooms are so cozy you won't want to leave, but the view of Mystic Harbor and Long Island Sound will make a step outside worthwhile. The Inn also hosts weddings in its gardens. Just beyond its 15 hillside acres is Mystic Seaport, and the historic village of Stonington is a short drive away. Today's couple may not head for Hollywood after the wedding, but they could do worse than follow in the footsteps of silver screen idols who taught us how to whistle.Regina Cole
